Office Administrator

Barry Stewart Builders Ltd are seeking an experienced Office Administrator to join our talented and dedicated team in this full time senior position. It is a challenging role requiring a high degree of intuition, accuracy, excellent communication skills, with the ability to prioritise and multi-task. 

 

The successful candidate will report directly to the general manager and also work closely with design staff. A proven background in accounting and payroll is a prerequisite.

 

Duties include:

  • Weekly payroll

  • Debtors & creditors

  • Monthly invoicing

  • Managing Payment Claims including tracking of variations & retentions

  • End of month reporting and reconciliation

  • GST, PAYE & Pay Day filing reconciliations and payments

  • Preparation of employment contracts

  • Job file creation, monitoring & reporting

  • Managing smaller job files, including insurance work, in conjunction with the GM

  • Assisting the GM in the pricing role including the seeking and collating of tender documentation

  • General accounting and administration duties including the use of MS Office Suite (Excel & Word) to an advanced level

  • Showing competence in all communications with clients, trade staff and subcontractors

  • Using the accounting software Plus Factor (on-the-job training will be provided)

  • Experience with website design and a good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures would be advantageous.

Quantity surveyor & project manager

A rare opportunity is now available to join the team at Barry Stewart Builders as a Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager. This is a multi-skilled role allowing you to both manage projects and control costs.  You will be part of a team responsible for the successful and timely delivery of contracts exceeding Clients' expectations.

Some of your responsibilities are:

  • Preparing Tender and Contract documents, including bill of quantities with Architect and/or Client

  • Assist in establishing Client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies and cost analysis

  • Staff management and allocation of work to sub-contractors

  • Valuing completed work and arranging payments

  • Keeping projects and contracts organised; on time and on budget!

 

The right person will:

  • Have a strong commitment to Health and Safety

  • Be an extraordinary communicator

  • Possess excellent organisation and planning skills

  • Be Excel and Word proficient

  • Have experience with Buildsoft/Cubit estimating software or similar

Most of our construction projects take place in Invercargill and its surrounds, but some travel within the wider Southland region may be required.

Experience in Passive House construction is beneficial, but not essential - training will be provided to the right candidate.

Jobbing carpenter

Due to growing demand, we are looking to employ a jobbing carpenter - a role best suited to someone who can handle a wide variety of (mostly small) work.
 

  • Full-time, permanent position.

  • Variety of small work: maintenance, fencing, decks, bathrooms, insurance work etc.

  • Immediate start.

  • Vehicle provided.

Foreman carpenter (POSITION FILLED)

A rare opportunity is now available to join the team at Barry Stewart Builders as a Foreman Carpenter. This interesting, challenging role includes:

  • Overseeing building processes from initial layout to completion

  • Working with clients, project managers, subcontractors and suppliers

  • Supervising and mentoring staff

  • Ordering materials

  • Maintaining good records of all work

  • Quality control of workmanship

  • 46.5 normal weekly hours of work

 

Successful applicant is:

  • Experienced foreman

  • Excellent communicator

  • Skilled in reading plans & specifications

  • Used to defined timeframes and strict deadlines

  • Comfortable both on the tools, but also supervising and mentoring

  • Committed to employment and health & safety guidelines

  • Punctual, committed, responsible and accountable

  • Able to provide contact details for previous employers as referees
