Jobbing Carpenter

Purpose:

To undertake a wide range of tasks and complete the apprenticeship to a high standard to meet the needs
of the business in an efficient and effective way, ensuring maximum customer satisfaction at all times.

 

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintenance Work

  • Variety of small job work

       -Fencing

       -Decks

       -Bathrooms

       -Insurance Work

       -Services Resource Jobs

  • To assist on larger scale projects as and when required

  • To carry our industry tasks as diligently, quickly, and effectively as possible

  • Demonstrate interest in the specific industries work

  • Be courteous and helpful to other contractors and the companyís clients

  • Prepare materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, power saws, etc

  • Operate and maintain equipment used in construction operations in a safe and efficient manner

  • Utilising the companyís technology and systems to deliver tasks in a timely and accurate manner

  • Maintain all job record keeping and administration requirements as necessary

  • Ensure all jobs are delivered on time to a high standard, taking personal responsibility for your work and performing Quality Control checks throughout the building and construction process so as to eliminate re-work

  • Communicating with the supervisor and other employees appropriately, ensuring everyone is informed on all aspects of the jobs at hand

  • Provide and maintain your own tools as required and always use them in a safe manner

  • Using the company provided tools in a safe and respectful manner, and reporting any defects or maintenance requirements as they become evident

 

General duties and responsibilities: 

  • Be punctual and work the hours and times specified

  • Prioritise workload to ensure work of the greatest importance to the business is undertaken with urgency and to a high standard

  • Support and help develop a positive workplace culture

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Responsibly manage all business resources within accountability levels

  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description and all other duties as required

  • by the business

  • Comply with all employment obligations

  • Promptly undertake to complete all reasonable and lawful instructions and directions given

Skills, experience, and education

  • Be self-motivated and self-managing

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

  • Physical fitness as manual handling is an integral part of the role

Foreman

Description:

To assist with current demand as well as long-term forward work, we are looking for a like-minded, experienced person to join our team in the role of foreman. As well as being reliable and an excellent communicator,
the successful applicant will need to have the following:

 

Skills Required

  • Experience and key skills

  • Be skilled in building plans and specifications

  • Be accustom to working within defined time-frames and strict deadlines

  • Be punctual, committed, responsible, and accountable

  • Being able to problem solve, plan and think ahead

  • Show leadership and commitment to both employment and health and safety guidelines

  • Be neat, clean, and well organised, with excellent attention to detail

  • Assisting in project layout and contributing to and overseeing building processes to completion

Project Manager

Description:

Barry Stewart Homes and Barry Stewart Builders is a 100% Southland-owned and operated construction company, with over 35+ years of experience. We specialise in both Commercial Construction, Residential Building, and Maintenance work.

We're looking for a capable Project Manager to join the team. In addition to problem-solving and time management skills, the successful applicant will have the ability to communicate well with clients and suppliers at all levels and preferably have the following additional attributes:

 

Skills Required:

  • Health and Safety, sound knowledge of the Health and Safety 

  • Quality assurance

  • Liaise with consultant, contractors, employees, and other stake holders for carrying
    out project successfully

  • Financial / contractual management

  • Tender documentation & revaluation

  • Progress claim review and approval

  • Sound knowledge of Construction Contracts Act 2004, Building Code, and RMA

  • Risk management

  • Deliver project objectives on time and within budget

  • Retentions

  • Reading and interpreting drawings

  • Price and prepare client variations

  • Experience in Project Management Software (Procore or similar be an advantage)

You Will Also Need:

  • Sound computer knowledge

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Flexible and self-motivated

  • Honest and trustworthy

  • Ability to work unsupervised and part of a team

  • NZ Drivers License

  • NZ Residency or valid NZ Work Visa

Carpenter

  • Understanding of the Building Code

Residential Carpenters

To assist with current demand as well as long term forward work in our residential sector we require
two full-time qualified carpenters experienced in residential building and refurbishment.

Skills required:

  • High quality workmanship, neat and tidy

  • Efficient time manager and hard working

  • Ability to read and follow architectural plans and specifications

  • Understand and follow safe working practices

  • Good communication skills and a team player

 

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Delivering of high quality workmanship within specific time frames

  • Ability to read and follow architectural plans and specifications

  • A keen adherence to safe working practices

  • Undertake a variety of jobs from small and larger refurbishments including kitchens, bathrooms,
    general maintenance and repair work, through to new design and build

 

Your own tools would be advantageous. Some flexibility in your start date.
